Unable to detect Wireless connections on a ASUS Vivobook Go E1504FA_E1504FA laptop

Hi my friend has a ASUS Vivobook Go E1504FA_E1504FA laptop and I helped to install Fedora 43 today, but after installing and booting up it doesn’t detect the wireless network, the option for WiFi doesn’t show up in the GNOME desktop session. I did my search around and see that the WiFi card model which is MT7902 isn’t supported in the latest Fedora’s kernel yet. So I wonder should I change to another distro or is there a workaround for the WiFi card? Connect via Ethernet and USB tethering works fine it’s just that it doesn’t detect the wireless connections. Really appreciate any helps!

Here’s the output of lspci -nn | grep -i network
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: MEDIATEK Corp. MT7902 802.11ax PCIe Wireless Network Adapter [Filogic 310] [14c3:7902]

You could also replace the wifi card with an Intel or other supported card - this can be a very cheap option.

You could also get a wifi dongle that is supported.

Thanks for the reply. Then I think the best option would be changing the WiFi card since I can’t really think of a distro that support this specific WiFi card.

I agree with MatH. It seems mediatek adapters have little success with linux.

I just found out that the MEDIATEK Corp. MT7902 WiFi card is implemented directly into the ASUS Vivobook Go E1504FA_E1504FA’s motherboard so it’ll be hard to change the WiFi card. So I have some options as buying a USB WiFi Adapter, use a community driver with limited usages or wait for 4 - 5 more years for the kernel to support this specific WiFi card.

WiFi issues after upgrades are not unusual, so if both upgrades and WiFi are mission-critical, having a well-supported USB dongle avoids bad outcomes.

fenvi.aliexpress.com – here you can buy an Intel card.

Lets confirm that, I found this pic

https://laptopmedia.com/highlights/how-to-open-asus-vivobook-go-15-e1504f-disassembly-and-upgrade-options/

That shows the M2 wifi chip MT7902 just to the left of the fan - it has antenna wires coming out from it.

So if I have the model correct, the memory is soldered, but the wifi is upgradable, as is the SSD.

This model has a security vulnerability: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-20407
A mitigation should be available for “supported” configurations before the CVE is made public.

The model of the video you sent is ASUS Vivobook Go E1504F mine is ASUS Vivobook Go E1504FA I don’t think it’s the same exact model, I haven’t tried opening the laptop to see if thie WiFi card is upgradable or not, but if it’s upgrable then I’ll do it, if not then the USB WiFi Adapter might be the better option, the exact model name is E1504FA-NJ776W I don’t know if this helps anything though. Really thank for the replies.

Ok I were able to test on this specific USB WiFi adapter and it was working perfectly, so I’m gonna go with the USB WiFi adapter path, really appreciate all the replies!!

Most are and minor differences in model number seldom show major changes in layout.

Good luck.

If the wifi hardware as shown by inxi -Nzxx chances are high that it will be the same. My experience has been that vendors tend use the same wifi hardware on multiple models, even over several years.
