Two attempts needed to logout/reboot/shutdown in Gnome

Hi,

I use F38 with Gnome but I used to have the same issue in Fedora’s previous iterations: when I click on the shutdown button in Gnome’s upper panel and, next, choose to restart, power-off or log-out, nothing happens. But if I choose the same option again, it will work.

This issue is quite stable, it is always there. And it happens on my laptop where I use F39 as well. I was surprised to know that not everybody has it.

Here are my system parameters:

This is apparently an old issue, e. g., it was mentioned back in 2019: Logout/Shutdown from menu requires two attempts

Although the previous thread was closed for some reason, I can confirm the issue remains and has not yet been solved.

For me this has always been a 3 or 4 click procedure, and has remained the same for many releases.

First click is to open the menu in the upper right corner.
Next is to select the power menu
third is to select power off (or restart)
4th is to shutdown (or restart) immediately (or wait 60 seconds)

Fedora 39 seems the same as it has been for several releases.

The difference is – after click three, nothing happens.

Yours may be a corner case that is specific to your config or hardware. I suggest you file a bug report at bugzilla.redhat.com since I only see the 2 threads noted here (one from 2019 and this one) that are related. Link your bug report back here so others may find it.

Here is the newly created bug report: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2247863

I have provided a short video illustrating the issue, it is within the report.

@fasulia Do you use disk encryption, by the way?

Yes, LUKS on LVM.

Not sure if it is related to the issue, but same with me: / and /home are ext4 partitions encrypted with LUKS.
