Context: Prior to upgrading to F41 I had a vanilla F40 install (F40 was installed maybe a week before upgrading to F41). As of F41 the power profile daemon has changed to tuned (power-profiles-daemon has received the boot).
In gnome setting power tab you have 3 options: Balanced, Performance and Power Saver.
In tuned you have many power profiles: powersave, balanced-battery, optimize-serial-console, hpc-compute, accelarator-performance, network-latency, virtual-guest, balanced, throughput-performance, latency-performance (and some more but I’m bored of listing all of them).
The Performance profile in gnome settings power tab is equivalent to tuned throughput-performance.
Here begins the problem.
If you change the power profile with tuned to another performance profile (latency-performance or accelarator-performance) and try to enter the power profile tab in gnome settings the setting app crashes. This happens every time.
So, to sum up and try to recreate by other people:
Go to your gnome settings power tab and select Performance;
Exit gnome setting app (you can exit it when you are in the power tab - this will make the reopening of the gnome settings app imposible after changing the power profile with tuned; you can exit the gnome setting app from another tab, e.g. wifi, this will result in the possibility of opening the gnome setting apps but will crash immediately when trying to acces the power tab).
change power profile with tuned to another performance profile that is listed in the tuned daemon, latency-performance or accelarator-performance (the terminal command to change the power profile is: tuned-adm profile latency-performance or tuned-adm profile accelarator-performance).
Try to open the gnome settings app.
The outcome should be one of those mentioned in point 2: impossibility of opening the gnome setting app (with a crash notification) if the app was closed from the power tab (and reopening it takes you to the last page - this is the default behavior on my system - dont know if this can be changed), or the automatically closing of the gnome app (crash) when trying to acces the power tab.
If this is a bug pls tell me how to file it. I dont know if this is a Fedora bug, or a Gnome bug.
P.S. - my CPU is an AMD 5900x, MB ASUS Crosshair Dark Hero VIII; 32 GB DDR4
P.S. 2 - to be able to use the gnome settings app again you can revert to the default power profile - tuned-adm profile throughput-performance
