Tray icons missing, not appearing in KDE tray after update Fedora 39/40

Tray icons of applications do not appear in the tray area of the KDE panel anymore. KDE’s built-in icons are all there though (notifications, volume etc.).

Examples include the HP software for network scanners (hplip), the VOIP client Linphone…

This affects all programs with tray icons. This makes such programs partially unusable, you don’t see if they’re running and some cannot even be closed without the tray menu because the X button on the window only minimizes it.

In the tray area settings (right-click, edit mode, configure system tray), in the “Entries” section, the checkmark to always show all icons is checked, however running applications aren’t listed there. It all worked fine before a recent update.
Is this a known bug?

From KInfoCenter:
KDE Plasma version 6.2.4
KDE Framework version 6.8.0

Screenshot showing two applications that would display a tray icon, yet no icon appears in the tray area and they aren’t even listed under “Application Status” where they would normally show up.
