Torrents fail to download

I occasionally download stuff using magnet/torrent links. Always used Transmission app on Mac in the past, worked perfectly every time. So I downloaded Transmission for Fedora, but it doesn’t download at all. tried various known good torrents, all static and no progress. Then I noticed Brave browser does torrrents in the browser so I tried that and it also fails to download anything. If I put same torrent/magnet link into Mac Transmission on another machine, it works perfectly.
Any ideas?

Did you enable a firewall by any chance?

Another good torrent/download manager is Varia; maybe try that.

Transmission sucks IMO, try deluge or qbittorrent instead.

Thanks. I wouldn’t know how to enable a firewall to be honest!
It’s damn weird. Same magnet links on Transmission OR BRAVE on anotgher machine work fine, so I am sure it’s this machine somehow

PS tried Varia - same, just sitting there with no progress/peers

I’ve just installed a Flatpak version of Transmission, and have downloaded a Fedora live image with no issues.

You could also try Fragments, which is a GNOME app. If it doesn’t work with it either, then it’s obviously not an app issue.

I installed the RPM version of Transmission to test and also had no issues:

I’ve used Transmission on Fedora for years, and pretty sure I downloaded something through it on F41 Workstation (RPM), but for sure F40 and older. Magnets and torrents go from Firefox to Transmission no problem.

It sounds like a filesystem or permissions ordeal.

Thanks everyone. Well, long story short, it’s the damn VPN connection I was using. ANY other from same provider works fine, just not that one (which is my default connection at boot!)
Sorry, and thank you!
