This is how Fedora Core 1 was like

I started using this version long ago. This was done back in 2018. It’s good to have a reproducible system.

Doesn’t look THAT much different from installing Mandrake 5 or 6.something back in 1999 or so. Watch it in 360p resolution for authenticity.

144p over ADSL. I think in 1999 I was only just getting 128kbps or 256kbps at home. So even when installation *.iso’s were around 700MB per CD it still took forever to download a few installation and source CDs.

Luxury! The very best I could get in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire was 50Kb/s and prior to that it was 3.5Kb/s absolute max on a US Robotics modem.

It was far cheaper and faster to go into PC World in Huddersfield and buy a Mandrake box off the shelf. It was uphill both ways too, if I recall correctly.

I started on 56k. Probably 96 or 97. AOL naturally because of these. I did have an Amiga back in 1992 but never had a modem for it, so no mailing list or BBS access. I still remember the jump from ADSL to VDSL and thinking “we’ll never need anything faster”.

 I remember doing the same and picking up Red Hat 6.something myself. Also my local PC World.

No need. I’m pretty sure that’s the actual physical resolution of all that replied, myself included. ;D
