I’ve recently been installing Fedora 43 Workstation, but I’ve found that the installer won’t open—sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn’t. This has left me at a loss. However, the same installer for Fedora 42 works fine, so I hope this issue (bug) can be resolved as soon as possible. I suggest including the traditional GTK installer in future releases as a fallback option, though I still hope the installer’s bugs will be fully fixed to provide users with a better experience. Thank you to the Fedora team, support staff, developers, and everyone else involved!
There is the F44 beta to test if you like (see download page).
Yes you can install F42 and then update, however you will create additional work for you.
Can you tell us more about your system?
I was reading here, that other users had issues to start the installer, or they got the message that Firefox is already open. For me it seams to be a hardware specific issue. I made new installations with F43 without problems. The only thing I observed that I had to be patient with the Installer, as it works a lot in the background.
Hello, thank you for your help! My desktop computer is indeed quite old, and it doesn’t seem to support Wayland very well (the graphics card is an Intel HD Graphics 2500). I tried the Fedora 43 Workstation and KDE Plasma Desktop live boot disks; while I could access the live desktop, the installer wouldn’t open. However, when I switched to Fedora 42 Workstation, the installer opened just fine. This must be a bug in version 43, right?
It also can be the kernel on which the ISO is based on. Please test the re-spins to see if this works better for you (with different kernel & updates) :
