It is generally ok to start a discussion about open source projects, incl. you own, if it’s not commercial and somehow useful on a Linux distribution or so. As long as it does not become the emphasis/focus/priority, it’s ok that starting such a discussion contains inevitably a subtle promotion of the project 
Also, if you think something breaks the rules: just flag it. It’s not useful to post in each topic, in which you flagged something, that you have done so. At the worst, this can cause a fight, which will not add anything constructive.
