Tag files like in Mac osx | Fedora 40 Workstation | Gnome

Hi everyone , is there an extension or some code making possible to tag or give a notes like 1 to 5 stars , to files in nautilus and an easier way to reach the star notation under the properties of the files, like the color system in Mac osx or create your own list of tags reachable by right clicking ?

Can’t really help but I can provide links to further information about the topic:

thanks, i did install One folder app which look promising in what i want to do but it’s only available as .appimage . I was able to make it executable and run it from downloads folder . Question is where to put it for fedora to recognize it as an app and having it listed in the Apps window , pin it in the dock and get a proper icon for it ? I know it’s another question compare to the subject…

Added f40

In List view you can already Star, as seen below.

What other functionality did you want to have I am not that familiar with MacOS.

something like this for the color, as i’m generating image with AI it helps to quickly tag your preferred ones , 2nd choice etc…

Several steps involved.

  1. if the app has a .desktop file then it may be put into your ~/.local/share/applications folder and it will be available on the applications menu.
That entry can then be pinned to the taskbar with a right click menu
The related icon for display must be named with an explicit path within the .desktop file with the 'Icon=… ’ line

  2. If necessary you may create your own .desktop file for that purpose.

  3. Most user binaries (appimages, etc.) are usually placed in the ~/bin folder but may be placed anywhere you choose under the users home directory…
