System freezes when connecting devices

This issue has been happening since I installed Fedora 42 (from a live USB) around the end of July.

Whenever I insert a USB or when I connect a Bluetooth device as well, the system freezes for about 30 seconds. This can be anything from an inconvenience (if I need to unplug then replug a microphone for example) to preventing me from using the system without restarting it (if the system goes to sleep then I attempt to wake it with a Bluetooth mouse).

Some windows still show progress (e.g. if I’m downloading something in Steam it will still be interactable) but other apps don’t work at all (mainly the KDE ones). Once the clock starts ticking again, I am aware that the connection has been successful.

I have a log here that shows what happens when a USB device is plugged in but nothing sticks out as an issue, and in fact after the system unfreezes there are no messages in the log explaining why it’s recovered.

Hoping someone can help as the issue has persisted across kernel and KDE updates.

Unrelated but why are you using X11 and not Wayland?
Your GPU supports Wayland with the RPM fusion drivers.

Try running sudo journalctl -f in a terminal then plug in a device and see what logs are emitted. Does that provide any clues?

The journal log I posted was what happens when inserting a device, it does seem to be X11-related. I started using X11 because I was having issues with Wayland, I’ve switched back and the issue doesn’t occur on Wayland so this is good news. Hopefully I don’t have any further issues with Wayland :slight_smile:
