System freezes for some time, then continues normally

,

Hello,

I have been using Fedora 43 (KDE) almost exclusively on my main computer for almost 2 months now and have been enjoying it a lot. I have a dual boot system with Windows 11 and Fedora 43 KDE.

I’ve only encountered one issue so far, that I haven’t been able to fix. Sometimes, I get some freezes or general unresponsiveness for a few seconds, it can be from 3 seconds up to ~45 seconds, give or take. And sometimes it unfreezes for a second, then freezes again for a short while. It’s fairly rare, which is why I hadn’t made a post until now. I have noticed via programs such as Mission Center and System Monitor that during those times, that the Disk Usage is particularly high, however I can’t seem to find what all is reading or writing to my SSD that might cause this, even with filters on Mission Center and System Monitor to put read/write to the top of the list. Sometimes the mouse cursor is movable (but most other things are unresponsive), some other times it’s not, until it fixes itself.

To give some additional context, my Fedora 43 installation was on a brand new Crucial BX500 SATA SSD (4 TB). I partitioned it, 1 TB as NTFS (via Windows), and I left the rest (3 TB) to the defaults while installing Fedora. I’m pretty sure I do not use any encryption though. Everything on Fedora should be btrfs except /boot and /boot/efi (ext4 and FAT32 respectively). The other thing I have changed, or rather, added to, was the swap. To my knowledge, Fedora uses Swap on ZRAM, which I did not change. Instead, I added a 16 GB swap file on the disk (this issue did still happen before that, however). Furthermore, the freezing does not happen in Windows, which is installed on a separate NVMe SSD drive, even while running games installed on the 1 TB partition of the new SSD.

For what it’s worth, before I got the new SSD, I used to have KUbuntu on a separate 1 TB Samsung SATA SSD (also partitioned, some was NTFS via Windows, the rest was ext4 for Linux), and had no such issue with it.

Is there any way I can fix this freezing? Since it’s rather annoying when using my computer, either for gaming or for work.

Thank you in advance for reading and sorry for the long post!
