System becomes partially unresponsive and then nouveau crashes on power off when using memory intensive apps

Hi!, I’ve recently noticed that when i use programs that use
a lot of memory then sometimes my system can become partially
unresponsive(i cannot launch any new instances of GUI apps)
and then when i try to power off the system to boot it back up
the plymouth splash doesn’t show up and instead i get tons of
those errors on the screen and the computer doesn’t power
off:
nouveau 0000:01:00.0: timer: stalled at ffffffffffffffff

What can be the issue and how can I fix it?

I’m using a GTX 1660 Ti on the ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX506LU laptop

How much RAM in the machine? you might be hitting oomkill …
You can open a terminal and run top to get an idea of what is going on when you hit the unresponsive/can not launch any more GUI apps … pay attention to the amount of "MiB Swap: " line …
