In response to 2419779 – stfl package links to scam site, I’d like to switch stfl from its historical (now-squatted) source to a fork maintained by the newsboat maintainers. It is a resurrection of newsbeuter (the only other Fedora package which uses it). Does anything official need to be done to switch over or do I just start pulling from the fork?
If upstream is inactive and a fork is now the goto source, switching to it is fine. We tend to avoid it because it may create issues with versioning etc in the future if upstream comes back alive again, but if you don’t feel that’s likely, using the fork is fine.
Upstream’s domain has expired (and been squatted), so even if it does come back, it would have to be “elsewhere” anyways. I expect newsboat developers would welcome someone taking over given its “low key fork” self-description and acceptance of PRs and issues. But the fork is focused on the sole Fedora package using it, so I’m fine with moving it.
