Installation Instructions

Requirements & Configuration

To seamlessly connect your Android device with PhoneToLinux Desktop, ensure the following prerequisites and setup steps are completed:

1. Android Companion App

  • You must have the PhoneToLinux companion app installed on your Android device.
  • Make sure to grant all requested permissions (Bluetooth, Notifications, Contacts, and Call Management) on your phone to allow complete synchronization with your desktop.

2. Network & Port Configuration

If you have an active firewall (such as firewalld or ufw) running on your Linux system, you need to open the required communication ports.

Required Ports:
  • UDP Port 5353: Used for local device discovery (mDNS / Zeroconf).
  • TCP Port 8080: Used for data synchronization, call signals, and messaging service traffic.
Opening ports on Fedora / RHEL (firewalld):
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=5353/udp
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=8080/tcp
sudo firewall-cmd --reload
For hands-free audio, call routing, and low-latency interaction, properly pair your phone with your Linux environment:Enable Bluetooth: Turn on Bluetooth on both your Android phone and Linux PC.Make Discoverable: Ensure your Linux PC is set as discoverable in system settings.Pair the Device:Open System Settings $\rightarrow$ Bluetooth on Linux (or use bluetoothctl in terminal).Find your Android phone in the device list and click Pair.Confirm the matching PIN on both your phone and PC.Audio Profile Configuration (Hands-Free):Once paired, go to your Linux audio/volume control panel (PipeWire / WirePlumber).Ensure your phone is configured to use the HFP/HSP (Headset) profile for voice calls, or A2DP for media audio playback.

There is a new package of phonetolinuxdesktop. Now it will install via dnf correctly. And I add some new icons to improve UI experience. In near future I add emoji support … :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Ok, as I promised, in new version, I added a emoji support in text chat. It doesn`t work 100% correctly, due to outdated emoji.json but, basic functions will work correct.
