Sound issues on Lenovo Yoga 14AKP10

Hi all,

I have been switching distro’s a lot lately since I am new to Linux. I have now settled on using Fedora Workstation. There is only one audio problem that bothers me which I have had with every other distro and I can’t seem to fix.

The problem:
Right now I have just freshly installed Fedora Workstation 43. All the speakers are working at this moment, since there are 4 speakers in this laptop; 2 tweeters and 2 woofers. Only the volume control is not working. So they are either 100% or muted even though the volume slider moves.

When I dnf upgrade Fedora, I get my volume control back. But I also lose all the bass speakers. This problem is present in almost all distro’s. Only in ZorinOS 17 I have had the exact same situation I have here. All the other ones it was just no bass at all. As you can see in the alsamixer the bass speaker’s volume can be changed. After the dnf upgrade it will show bass speaker, but it is locked at 0.

When I tried fixing the problem on other distro’s (like arch), there were other people with the same issue. They found out the bass speaker or the amp that is in this laptop would not be initialized. It seems that right now it is, but there is no volume control. But after the dnf upgrade it will fail to get initialized.

What should I do next?
So somewhere in between the (kernel) versions I now have and the ones after dnf upgrade I lose the bass but gain volume control. Is there a way to get both at the same time somehow? Maybe look at the differences between before the dnf upgrade and after? Because it can work, I just don’t know how. I’ve been at this for a few weeks now and I can’t seem to find a solution. Any help is much MUCH appreciated

For now I changed it for you.

It does seem that this is an ongoing issue with Lenovo laptops. Maybe look at some of these threads. There were a few people who had come up with some things that work. Maybe they can’t necessarily be called “solutions” but instead workarounds…
