So I am still new to Linux but decided to make a full jump in and converted to Linux after the windows 10 EOD. So please excuse my ignorance on things as i describe or ask questions. I spent a while yesterday (embarrassed to say 10 hours) trying to just boot the live version of fedora KDE plasma desktop. I thought all my thumb drives were bad and even my internal ssd i put the iso on. I finally figured out that it was my soundblaster AE-7 card. i should have known because it caused issues even on windows when i built the machine. Anyway all that to say that i pulled out the card and it worked i got it booted up got the system downloaded updated and added in AMD drivers for my graphics card. Now i am trying to diagnose the issue because i cant boot at all if i plug in the sound card. It does not want to mount drives and throws a lot of errors. Does anyone have a way i can look and see what is going on because it is not showing in my logs or i am missing which log it is in.
on a side note as i will look it up but is there a way to upgrade fedora 42 to the new version when it becomes stable without going through a full rebuild?
sorry if my questions sound dumb because i am sure they are in some ways, I am just beating my head against a wall trying to find answers.
The upgrade is really easy, and probably should be done to upgrade to f42 first. It may even help with the soundblaster. You can also check if it is supported or others have had issues by going to LHDB
In a text window follow the instructions from here to do the upgrades. Note that the optional steps there are seldom necessary.
Welcome to fedora and enjoy the ride. Users here are usually very helpful.
There are many newer cards that do work in linux, and the ones built into many newer motherboards seem outstanding for my needs. In fact, many monitors and TVs used as monitors have hdmi audio input as well.
I would suspect only audiophiles would need anything better than what is already available, and I doubt the older soundblaster is better than newer ones. Maybe not even better than the built in audio systems in computers and TVs
Yeah i have 300 ohm headphones that need the extra power, I do a lot of audio and music editing so thats why. I know that the HD drivers they have on motherboards is more than enough for most people haha.
