Solution: NVIDIA 470 drivers and high kwin_wayland CPU usage cause sluggish system (KDE)

This isn’t really a question. I’m just sharing what to do.

Some GPUs are not supported by newer NVIDIA drivers than 470xx (Howto/NVIDIA - RPM Fusion), but these drivers don’t work with Wayland, which is the default on Fedora 41.

After an upgrade, I had a lot of sluggishness in the system. Removed NVIDIA drivers and it went away, reinstalled and it returned.
Ctrl-Alt-F3 (it stops being slugish after the switch), login, install plasma-workspace-x11.
After a reboot, switch to Plasma (x11) at the bottom left of the login screen.
Everything now works and

When you removed the nvidia 470x driver, it would have fallen back to nouveau.
Have you considered just using nouveau? I have a system that runs with a GTX560 gpu on nouveau and it does okay. The nice thing is that it automatically updates when the kernel does and it works on both wayland and X11

I did try that a number of times in the past, but it wasn’t working okay on this system. Plus, I need the image controls provided by the server settings application that comes with the official drivers.
