Slow wifi dongle

Hi, I’m new to linux. I have a problem with slow download speeds with my newly purchased wifi dongle. The dongle is using the MT-7601 chipset which should be supported by the kernel.

I’m using my phone as a hotspot and getting about 1MB/s download speeds, which can’t be right. On the dongle package it says it is able to do 150 Mbps. If I use USB-tethering I get about 35MB/s download.

If I type ‘lsusb’ in the terminal, it shows up as ‘MT7601U Wireless Adapter’.

I am currently running Fedora 41 Kde amd64.

Any help would be appreciated.

Run nm-connection-editor in terminal select your_hotspot connection and change band default automatic to 2.4 Ghz and channel to 11.Save changes and see how is preformed after applying changes.

No change in download speed.

Ok go to ipv6 settings and disable it default is automatic and try like that

Still no change.

One B = 8b.

So 35 x 8 = 280.

Which is almost twice as fast as the manufacturers claim.

1MB is normal for a mobile phone download. My 4G goes between 250kB/s and 2MB/s depending on network load. My 5G can go up to 4MB/s.

So sounds like your dongle is behaving normally and your USB tethering is blindingly fast. Lucky you.
