Silverblue's Firefox Plugin Openh264

As for sysexts, there is a tool to manage them:

In the case of Firefox from Flathub, however, this is not necessary, as the codecs are included in the package and are updated along with the application.

December 22, 2025 A New Lab Session To Verify Rumble .Com Videos Do NOT Play.

FRESH INSTALL SILVERBLUE 43

Location Service Enabled, Timezone Chicago

Do Power Settings [ Date & Time ].

Verify / Note About OS Name : ‘’ Fedora Linux 43.1.6 (Silverblue) ‘’

Software Store Pop-Up ‘’ Enable Third Party Repositories ‘’ : IGNORE

Software Store > Preferences > Software Updates : Set to ‘’ M A N
U A L ‘’ [ and DISABLE Automatic Update Notifications ].

Software Store > Repositories : shows ‘’ Software Repositories ‘’
pop-up with a spinning circle. Just waited until completion.

  1. Set Software Store > Repositories > Firmware (fwup) = DISABLED.

  2. Set Software Store > Repositories > Fedora Third Party Repositories > Flathub = ENABLED.

Update Silverblue . . .

‘’ $ rpm-ostree upgrade --check ‘’

‘’ $ rpm-ostree upgrade ‘’

says ‘’ No upgrade available ‘’. Hmm.

What is the Firefox Version # ? : 143.0.3 (64-bit)

That’s NOT the latest.

Restart / Reboot.

A pop-up appears : ‘’ A Software Update Has Been Installed ‘’

Notice that in step # ‘’ 1) ‘’ above, I specified ‘’ M A N U A L ‘’ updates.

That should have DISABLED Automatic Updates.

This is an Unstable Environment.

Perhaps Software Updates should be initialized to ‘’ M A N U A L ‘’.

What is the Firefox Version # now ? : 146.0 (64-bit)

‘’ $ rpm-ostree upgrade ‘’

says ‘’ No upgrade available ‘’. Okie Dokie

Verify Rumble .Com videos do NOT play. VERIFIED.

It might well be that at the time you’ve disabled Automatic Updates, an update process had already been started by GNOME Software and, hence, the pop-up notification.

Did you take any of the steps mentioned here in this thread, after reinstalling the system?

Please share the output of:

rpm-ostree status
flatpak list
head -4 /usr/local/share/applications/org.mozilla.firefox.desktop

Every single “Firefox can’t play videos” thread is the same:

  • Make sure Fedora’s Firefox Flatpak is removed
  • Setup Flathub and install Firefox from Flathub
  • Mask the Firefox that comes in the image using the instructions in the docs

FWIW, I just confirmed the following:

  1. I clicked on the link at the end of the paragraph in the SIlverblue documentation that I referenced in my first post, i.e.:
  1. I clicked “Install”.
  2. I clicked “Open Link”.
  3. I clicked “Install”.
  4. In the Software application, I clicked the drop-down menu under the “Open” button and confirmed that the “Flathub (dl.flathub.org FLATPAK)” option was selected, notFedora Linux (fedoraproject.org RPM).”
  5. I clicked “Open”.
  6. Verify if rumble.com videos ARE playing. VERIFIED.

If the above is not clear enough, I can provide screenshots.

CONCLUSION . . .

GIVEN : SilverBlue User’s Guide > FAQs

Please ADD : ‘’ This is a SystemD [ User Service Level Affecting ] BUG. ‘’

Please ADD : the High Priority Bugzilla Number so that it can be tracked and RESOLVED.

Please ADD : COMMAND LINE METHOD WORKAROUND : ‘’ $ flatpak install flathub org.mozilla.firefox ‘’

You may [ or may not ] want to CLARIFY GUI METHOD WORKAROUND.

In addtion, I also INSTALLED WATERFOX BROWSER via GUI Method . . .

Flathub > Waterfox

The GUI Method worked fine for me. Click the ‘’ Install ‘’ button. A pop-up window appears with an ‘’ Intall ‘’ button. Click that button as well.

Do Rumble .Com videos play? : Yes. VERIFIED.

So, WaterFox is also a WORKAROUND.

SystemD may [ or may not ] also consider WaterFox as a RESOLUTION.

If all Default Browsers from Flathub cause SystemD unreasonable and experimental technical gymnastics / risks for any reason,

then NO DEFAULT BROWSER is also a reasonable SystemD RESOLUTION.

It’s up to you, Fedora, to choose a resolution.

Let’s ensure progress. The sky will never fall. Your future is bright.

19 words & phrases for ‘’ to move forward ‘’.

The word I was looking for ‘‘ Avante ‘‘.

Then why doesn’t Silverblue simply ship with Flathub version of Firefox? :man_shrugging:t4:

That is the end-goal: Consider migrating the default browser (Firefox) to a Flatpak (#3) · Issues · Fedora / Fedora Atomic Desktops / SIG Issue Tracker · GitLab

It “ should “ be easy [ and fun ] to implement the capability for users who need Fedora’s RPM Fusion FireFox functionality to install it from the Software Center / Store.

Beyond that, I would vote for Flatub’s WaterFox browser as the Default browser.

Or, no default browser. Let the user decide. There are many to choose from..

Answer-Fedora . . .

If you click on the link at the end of the paragraph in the SIlverblue documentation that I have provided in several of my posts, you will see a drop-down menu (down arrow) very close to the right of the big blue Install button. Clicking on the drop-down menu (down arrow) will open a small pop-up window where you can find instructions on how to install and run the application via the command line.
