Silent builtin speakers until headphone jack in-out, HP ProBook 460

Hello all,

Using Fedora 43 and GNOME 49 under Wayland on a HP ProBook 460 G11.

The builtin speakers produce no sound - until I plug in and remove a jack-connector from the headphones-jack.

When I open GNOME’s sound settings, the output device is set to Speaker - Meteor Lake-P HD Audio Controller. A click on the Test button shows the “Test Speakers” dialog. Both speaker-buttons produce no sound, when clicked.

It is only after plugging in and removing some/a jack cable in the headphones connector, that I hear “Front left” and “Front right” when clicking on the test button. After some time, the speakers are silent again and I have to repeat the procedure.

How can this behavior be explained? What should I do to debug any further? How can this be fixed?

Thanks and kind regards,
