Sell me on Atomic, CoreOS, Flatpaks, and Containers

The Dev Container extension only works on VSCode (not Codium)[1][2].
TBH I also feel like AppImage is the better choice as a non-sandboxed, one-for-all distro packaging format in this case, but it’s not well integrated like Flatpak is.

Counterpoint: most AppImages (all of the ones I’ve used) don’t bundle all the dependencies they need. For example, they expect a system to have glibc, or a specific SSL library, which it might not. Flatpak truly does work everywhere. I even use Alpine as a desktop sometimes, and that’s possible because so many of the apps I use are distributed as a Flatpak.
