Hi community,

i’m facing a new problem. My browser stops browsing for some reason. It looks like the root cause is the segfault from xdg-desktop-por. After restarting the browser, it works until the next segfault. It always happens with the OS Tree Update check, but i’m not surte, if this is related.

now that I am looking at the D-BUS System and User session all the time, the problem no longer occurs…

Ok, now i know that nautilus calls /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal, but unfortunately , it crash.

But i still don’t know why.

curious, that only chromium browser stop working, chrome and ungoogled-chromium runs without any issue - all flatpaks…

ok, this looks like a bug as it is reproducible on a freshly installed VM after upgrading Silverblue to the latest deployment. So i think, it’s better to fill a Bug report…

this issue is also triggered by using the search box in activities.

i now replaced all Fedora Flatpaks with Flathub Packages and removed Fedora Flatpak completly. Now; this issue is gone - another issue has raised… :smiley:

I wonder if that will continue to be the case. I’ve been facing this same issue and I’ve been working with only Flathub packages the whole time.

No output. I don’t have that package.

Just ran into this issue with the Slack flatpak as well: Both Chromium and Slack will outright freeze if you try to upload / download a file.

Additionally, running that Nautilus command doesn’t output an error in the terminal for me, but does cause a segfault in xdg-desktop-por.

Hi Dave, first of all, thanks for posting! Very glad to find someone with the same problem and good at debugging. Can you please tell me how did you use DBUS to find the issue? Like did you open only the browser and went looking for the bus messages? or did you filter something before?

i don’t have slack, but as for chromium: down- and upload works fine for me. Sounds like a different issue. Anything in the Logs?

i just fired up dbus-monitor --session and dbus-monitor --system in terminals and watched the output .

you’ll see timestamp like this:

In this example, the time is shown as so called “epoch-time”. To convert it in human readable, just run in another terminal:
date -d @1747739915.118448
The output in this example will be:

So you can compare the timestamps with journalctl, to get a hint. This is what i did.

Down/upload in Chromium comes and goes. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I just tested an upload in Slack and, while nothing of note comes through in the application log, the same crash for xdg-desktop-por can be seen in the journal:

I’m on Fedora Linux 42.20250522.0 (Silverblue) as well. It doesn’t seem to be every Flatpak (e.g. it doesn’t happen with the GIMP Flatpak), and hasn’t happened with any of the few non Flatpak apps I’ve tried. So far I’ve noticed it in the Flatpaks for Firefox, Discord, and Slack, which all cause the same coredump as already mentioned.

yeah, the issue arises today, so changing the flatpak repository changes nothing…

looks like the same problem as this one [bug] chromium base browsers becomeing unresponsive/ hang when i try to upload a file with file picker

Looks like xdg-desktop-portal 1.20.3 is now available. I tested some file uploads in Chromium and Slack and all appears to be working again.

Time to rpm-ostree upgrade and get back to living our lives!

Upgrading working here as well. I pinned it down for future rollbacks with sudo ostree admin pin 0.
