On Fedora 43 Workstation (GNOME), installing my printer (Samsung M2026W) using the “Generic / IPP Everywhere Printer” driver works immediately without any issue.
However, when performing the same steps on Fedora 43 KDE (Plasma), the printer does not work. I receive the following error:
Bad Device URI
Steps to reproduce:
- Go to printer settings in KDE (System Settings → Printers)
- Add a new printer
- Select the detected Samsung M2026W printer
- Choose “Generic / IPP Everywhere Printer” driver
- Complete the setup
Expected result:
The printer should work immediately, as it does on Fedora 43 Workstation (GNOME).
Actual result:
The printer is added but does not work, with the error “Bad Device URI”.
Workaround:
If I manually add the printer using the following URI:
usb://Samsung/M2020%20Series?serial=08HYB8GM4A000EF
and still select the same “Generic / IPP Everywhere Printer” driver, the printer works correctly.
Additional information / suggestion:
It seems that KDE does not automatically populate the correct device URI.
Would it be possible to:
- Automatically detect and fill in the correct device URI, or
- Provide a clearer interface/panel to select or confirm the device URI during setup?
This would improve usability and consistency with Fedora Workstation.
Hardware:
- Printer: Samsung M2026W (USB connection)
Software:
- Fedora 43 KDE (Plasma)
- Also tested on Fedora 43 Workstation (GNOME) where it works correctly
Thank you for your help.
