Remembering window positions in KDE

I recently started using KDE. I was a long time XFCE user before. On XFCE when I would open my browser after a reboot, the restored windows would be opened in their original virtual desktops. I don’t get that behaviour on KDE. Is this a X11 ↔ Wayland difference? Or maybe I’m wrong in expecting what worked for virtual desktops to work with “Activities”?

Recently I found the “Window Rules” menu, and created these rules:

But they don’t seem to have any effect. When I open Firefox, it just restores all windows in the current Activity, and virtual desktop. I picked the values in the rules by using the “Detect Window Properties” utility at the bottom of the menu.

What am I missing?

PS: I use two Firefox profiles: “Original” and “Work”. The rules above are meant for both, respectively.

There was a long thread over on https://discuss.kde.org/ about this.
They are adding the code to save and restore sessions for Wayland.
I’m not sure when that feature will land.

You could try + Add Property... and add Virtual Desktops.
That seems to offer the ability to put a window on a specific desktop.

This didn’t work :frowning: I tried yesterday by restarting one of he profiles with no success. Today I had to reboot my laptop, so started everything from scratch, nothing :frowning:

Maybe I should use something other than “Apply initially”?

I have a rule that sets the position and size of the VM.
To that rule I added the Virtual Desktop and then I started the VM.
It was placed on my VM Virual Desktop.

Here is what that rule looks like.
