Is Fedora 44 getting the Linux 7.0 kernel?
I expect it will soon.
Initial release is with the 6.19.10 kernel as it has been frozen from the Beta stage for some time. f43 is already at 6.19.13 and rawhide is testing the 7.0 kernel.
So is F44 beta.
I havenāt seen any builds in koji yet for F43/44 on kernel 7.0.x
Will the sessions be available somewhere for people who cannot attend the live event?
Iāve seen the FedoraMagazine post and I would be interested in seeing a few topics when Iāll get the chance
Just found it, thanks
Hey there,
I updated to Fedora 44 (kinoite) recently but mine shows 6.19.10. Did I perhaps update to the wrong version or something?
Operating System: Fedora Linux 44
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.25.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
Kernel Version: 6.19.10-300.fc44.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (31.3 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 7600

I think thatās what youād expect in the F44 atomic image:
You should get an update soon after the official release date (28th April) when F44 gets unfrozen. 6.19.14 is currently in updates-testing for F44.
The initial release of f44 has 6.19.10
Expect updates after final release on April 28.
Why do so many people want kernel 7.0? There nothing special about it all. Think about it as kernel 6.20 with a different name.
Itās one bigger than 6 okay! It tickles my brain ![]()
Folks I made a new topic as this is not just Fedora 44 related.
They believe that their system will work better?! Of course this will not include the much older devices. They could loose some drivers, which they might take out of the kernel.
To all this users which report issues with the 7.0 Kernel, do not forget to post a complete output of inxi -Fzxx
How to make it correctly we do have this topic: Inxi | the help to help your selves
There is a test week for Linux v7 starting this Sunday. Feel free to help out: Kernel 7.0 test week
I havenāt seen any builds in koji yet for F43/44 on kernel 7.0.x
I see these
Just goes to show how much importance people put in a ānameā.
I know itās the same update amount from 6.17 to 6.18 to 6.19, more or less⦠but you stick a 7.0 in there and people lose their minds over it.
If you put āGTiā or āTurboā on the next one, itāll be the year of the Linux desktop for sure.
Hmm, I suppose you didnāt read the changelog. To name just 2 highly important changes:
- on the fly xfs repair (autonomous self-healing support) - this means you donāt have to take servers offline to fix xfs issues
net.ipv4.tcp_ecn=3(proper TCP congestion control)
There are way more but these 2 are probably on the top of my list.
The XFS changes alone are a reason for me and a good bit of my colleagues to anticipate kernel v7.0. What might be ājust a version bumpā for some is a decent upgrade to others.
Hi,
I donāt know why you waiting for new version of kernel. These changes are are usually ābackportedā in older version of the kernel. If you need what new kernel mean and change, you could read it in the changelog in āhttps://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ā. Iām trying the last version of kernel (7.0.2) - for my and my HW- no changeā¦
Well, I believe the person was referring to the fact that people might want 7.0 because it looks like a major jump. Which it isnāt. People who know Linux and how Linus tags the kernel know that.
I would want 6.20 as badly as I want 7.0. Not for the version jump, but for the features I am waiting for.
