Hello, I have random crashes and reboots on Fedora 42 Gnome (both on Xorg and Wayland) on my laptop.
With envycontrol I narrowed it down, seems like amdgpu issues, because it only happens in hybrid or intergrated graphics.

I tried to use dcdebugmask=0x10
in grub, but it didn’t do much for me.
This started at least from 6.14.6 (when I installed fedora with gnome).
Do I need to install older kernel? Not sure if installing older kernel will have no issues.
I am really puzzled, if someone knows where to dig I would really appreciate your help

This seams to be related to 780M support…
I noticed recent random crashes on my otherwise solid system…
8900G APU, 780M graphics (similar to laptop APUs)
Kernel 6.14.11
-it occurs in Cinnamon as well as in Gnome
-it occurs in X as well as in Wayland
(so it seams it’s none of that)
according to deduction and journalctl → seams to be amdgpu issue

I have 610m, I suppose it’s even worse?

So, I updated to 6.15.3
kernel and it’s better, but not perfect.
First of all I needed to add dcdebugmask=0x10
to grub, without it, login screen and system overall were unbearably laggy.
How to add if someone stambles on this issue:
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
Add dcdebugmask=0x10
to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX line, save file(Ctrl+x → Y → enter)
sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
With PSR disabled, system is stable and it’s great.
Currently I have some issues
with fullscreen videos(when amdgpu switches offloading to nvidia I have 2-5 second lag, I’m not sure, but seems like it).
Also changing brightness doesn’t work + system lags on brightness change(like it did with PSR on).
A lot of drm logs(exactly this log like 25+ times in different timestamp during boot)
amdgpu 0000:05:00.0: [drm] *ERROR* dc_dmub_srv_log_diagnostic_data: DMCUB error - collecting diagnostic data
I’m happy with new updates, it stopped crashing and my WIFI module finally good(atheros-firmware update).

Yes, it’s “more stable” now but still not stable as before:

I found a solution for myself!!!
I checked openCL vendors with ls /etc/OpenCL/vendors
. Found out that I only had nvidia there(. So, I installed sudo dnf install mesa-libOpenCL
and now, I have no crashes with amdgpu.
I just found out that issue could be related to mesa
installation or version, not amdgpu, so I checked my mesa
configuration. If someone has same GCVM_L2_PROTECTION_FAULT_STATUS
errors, it could be mesa
related.
ls /etc/OpenCL/vendors
now returns not only nvidia.icd
, but also rusticl.icd
(amdgpu modern opencl vendor, as I understand)
