Question and a request regarding Fedora Workstation for EU

Hi!

its both a question but it is also a request. Cuz i feel this needs attention early.
over at your place in USA, strange things happens about “Age verification laws”.

My question is, will Fedora be released as US and EU version there the EU version dont have the “Age verification” feature? Cuz i dont care its a law in USA, i dont live there.
And also, i am super happy with Fedora, it has been “my Linux OS” sense 2005ish.
and it is just the last 2 years i been able to not dual-boot. And i would very much like to keep it this way as it is. ofc i want updates, new versions and so on.

But i dont want any big changes now then everything is “perfect” both at home and at work.
my PC use F43, my job laptop use F44. my old AMD Threadripper is a Fedora Server KVM rig.

And we do use a mixed “Domain” setup now at the company i work at. we are about 40% using Fedora Workstation / KDE Plasma and 60% still use Windows 11. (MS AD + FreeIPA IdM in trust sync.)

So i am living the dream i dreamt about the last 20 years now :joy:
so i am very thank full what dev’s have done for us, very thankful for the entire Linux Community been coming so far the last 6 years and thankful to Valve. all these things have a big impact in the “tech side”.

And Trump has done a big impact for that every one else at the office outside IT want to switch to Linux.

Any how, its not a real discussion, i just want to lift this to the dev’s so they know what i at least think and wants. Then if you have ton of reasons why it cant be done i wont argue against. cuz that’s not the point with this post.

i just want to tell dev’s to keep a EU version or make it simple so you only work on one base code for Fedora and then compile the code with the “Age verification” feature / module for US market. a file like “fedora-67-x86-US.ISO” and “fedora-67-x86-EU.ISO” without “Age verification feature / module” for EU.

i do understand it is more work, but i hope it can be done with as little extra work as possible.

And thank you again for making Fedora, its been my favourite Linux Dist’s for ages!

Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe free open source operating systems are excluded from the whole age thing. I would google and find the change where they describe which OSes fall under the category but I’m kinda too tired atm :slight_smile:

Hopefully someone else can chime in.

One of the problems with current US administration is that Trump often changes rules without the usual due process. You have to consider how vendors of commercial non-free OS’s will respond if they lose market share to a large scale move by younger users towards linux.

There are different rulesfor different US states, but California has exempted Open Source projects, and no-one is enforcing other ill thought out laws or proposals on Open Source at this time.
There is no plan for Fedora to make an EU version, as their is no need.
