Question about the audio on M1 max

Ok here is my first official newbie question

I managed to get audio working with Renoise in the end, was quite a journey - had to figure out “qpwgraph” and all kinds of things. Couldn’t have done it without the LLM and i guess this is the kind of thing that turns ‘normal’ users off Linux as it was just a mindf*ck tbh. Doesn’t help that every time I straighten out all the wires and connections then the next time i look at it it’s a completely chaotic mess of overlapping wires again. I don’t really get it (yet) tbh but the main thing is - I got sound, and Renoise is working!

I figured out that “default” audio settings uses Asahi’s customised DSP to get the speakers sounding better. And “pro audio” is like a clean slate where i can do anything but risk destroying the speakers. Is that about right?

So my question is… when changing the volume on my internal speakers, there’s quite a few crackles and pops. The LLM tells me this is because of the Asahi DSP adding some strain and taking a bit of processing. Is that correct? - and if so is it possible to fix? Does everyone just accept clicks and pops or do most people have a silky smooth silent volume control?

Many thanks
