Problems suspending on a Lenovo Ideapad

I have a Lenovo Ideapad 530S-14IKB which has problems suspending. The problems were not present under Ubuntu, and have been present under Fedora. It’s possible it was using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and it’s possible it’s been using Fedora since version 39. It’s currently on Fedora 43.

There doesn’t seem to be any pattern to do with when it crashes, and it can happen when there is 1 user logged in, or no users logged in. It can go for several days without a crash, and then crash two times in one day.

There doesn’t seem to be anything useful in the logs:

When it crashes, the power light will be on, but the laptop is otherwise completely unresponsive.

The 530S-14IKB includes two display adaptors:

Intel UHD Graphics 620
NVIDIA GeForce MX150

As the problem may be to do with the NVIDIA adaptor, I installed the proprietary NVIDIA driver.

Before booting into the new kernel, Fedora was using the i915 (Intel) and nouveau (NVIDIA) drivers:

After booting into the new kernel, Fedora is using the nvidia_modeset driver:

user1@laptop-3:~$ grep 'video' /var/tmp/lsmod-2

The problem is that there is no driver loaded for the Intel adaptor, so it’s not possible to use the Intel adaptor.

Is it possible to use both the Intel and NVIDIA adaptors?

I’m not sure to follow all this assumptions.

We, at rpmfusion, have “tuned” the driver to better adapt to Fedora appropriate “defaults” which imply to use Wayland when possible and some others features that are relevant to either the Fedora kernel or various userspace application.

That implies to switch on some options that are implemented in this patch

You can choose to disable this non-default change by using a dedicated RPM macro, force rebuild the kmod and reboot to take effect (or tune the nvidia defaults back into a /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf file that do not need a rebuild of the nvidia kernel modules).

This tuning works for and very high majority of users and aren’t Nvidia default for various reasons, some of theses aren’t relevant to Fedora users at all. Occasionally some issue might arise because of various specific cases. That should be reported to nvidia at “ultimate priority”.

this set_driver_defaults.patch is not in F43 and neither in all nvidia-580xx branches

There should be no problem.

But you have obviously failed to read and implement the Howto bugreport from the previous link. Please do so, but report to nvidia forum.

yes , make modset default patch is in F43 , so maybe user can try disable modset on boot kernel parameters , to see if it is the problem

It appears that the PackageKit daemon was started, and some packages were upgraded.

Now the ideapad_laptop, i915 and nvidia_modeset drivers are all loaded concurrently.
