Pipewire/Audio not working in Flatpak F44

Hey everybody, since updating my system yesterday morning and today, it seems I cannot get audio working for any software installed in Flatpak.

To give some examples:

  • Audio from firefox, installed natively works.
  • Audio from discord, installed natively, works.
  • Audio from org.jeffvli.feishin (music player), installed through Flatpak, will fail.
  • Graph in io.github.dimtpap.coppwr (Pipewire graph manager), installed through Flatpak, will show an empty screen.

For instance, with io.github.dimtpap.coppwr:

I can also observe logs as such in software like Prism launcher (still installed through Flatpak):

Sep 18 18:52:37 tethys flatpak[11646]: ALSA lib ../../pulse/pulse.c:242:(pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Timeout

So far, I tried to swap to an older Kernel version, resetting Pipewire configuration files and tweaking Flatpak permissions through Flatseal, but to no avail.

Would anybody have any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks.

Hi, I had the exact same issue.

Not a real solution, but upgrading to F45 Beta fixed it.

Edit: The issue has reappeared following package updates

Managed to find a fix via Reddit

Create ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/99-unrestricted.conf and add

module.access.args = {
   access.socket = {
      pipewire-0 = "unrestricted",
      pipewire-0-manager = "unrestricted"
   }
}

context.rules = [
   {
      matches = [
         {
            pipewire.access = "flatpak"
         }
      ]
      actions = {
         update-props = {
            pipewire.access = "unrestricted"
         }
      }
   }
]

This, again, doesn’t seem like a real solution but I haven’t found anything else. I struggle to understand how this is not an issue that a lot of people have, presumably lots of people use Flatpaks and want to play audio, no? :person_shrugging:

Opened an issue on the Pipewire tracker:
