Hi everyone,
I recently installed Fedora (GNOME edition) on my laptop because I really liked the interface, and I’ve been exploring the Linux world. After doing some research, I learned about Proton and how it allows us to run Windows games on Steam. However, I’m running into serious performance issues.
Many games are running noticeably worse compared to Windows — and that includes native Linux games like Left 4 Dead 2. On Windows, I used to get around 70–80 FPS with certain settings, but now with those same settings on Fedora, the game drops to 30 FPS.
The same goes for Proton-based games. For example, Halo 3: ODST used to run at 1080p 60 FPS on Windows, but on Fedora I’m barely getting 30 FPS at 900p.
Here are my specs:
CPU:* AMD Ryzen 5 5500U
GPU:* Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics
OS:* Fedora Linux (GNOME)
Steam + Proton installed*
Is this kind of performance drop normal when gaming on Fedora/Linux? Or is there something I may be missing or misconfigured? Any help, advice, or recommended tweaks would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
