Ok, I tried, but it won’t let my type anything in the command line so I can’t run any of the commands needed to reinstall the thing
Wondering if I should just install a fresh copy of fedora? Would that help?
The error tells you what is wrong. You try to enter into the emergency mode and your root password is locked. This means you do not have set a root password when installing Fedora.
This might help. yes. Are you using ghe Workstation or KDE?
And for several years you don’t get that option when installing Gnome Workstation. To set the root password you need to run sudo passwd root after you have installed the system.
I wish a clever person could figure out how to enter emergency mode without needing a password for root. Now people need the Live System to fix the issue they might have.
Why limit yourself to two choices? There are spins using a number of other DEs. As an example, I use XFCE and find it very easy to configure to work the way I want it to, not how some dev thinks I should.
I can’t argue with that, However, when booting into a minimal environment by appending rw init=/bin/bash to the kernel params one is still able to fix at least some of the boot issues (selinux relabeling, errors in fstab, etc). All this is obviously of no use if the root disk is encrypted and cannot be unlocked.
Workstation does not allow creating a root password during installation nor setup (and has not for many years).
To create the root password on Workstation the user must log in then from a terminal use the command sudo passwd root to set the root password.
