Outreachy 2026 – Develop a SLM/LLM using RamaLama RAG: Introduce yourself!

Hi, I am Ritika, a software engineer from India. I have been contributing to issues in this project for a couple of weeks now, though I am a little late to introduce myself here.

My Open Source Journey
I am relatively new to open source, and this is the first time I am working on a structured open source project.

My Why
I chose Fedora because I love the collaborative environment the community provides. After spending time in the mentoring channel, I really feel that it’s one of those open source spaces where people are genuinely invested in helping each other grow.

Beyond that, professionally, my area of interest is AI/ML. I have been reading about RAG-based systems, though mostly in theory, so this project felt like the perfect opportunity to finally get my hands dirty and build something with real-world application. The idea that RPM spec files and packaging guidelines can be used to build an intelligent system using RAG where the model can help identify issues or deviations sounded really interesting to me.

My Goals
My main goal over the next few weeks is to become comfortable contributing to a large, collaborative open-source project, understanding workflows, improving code and documentation quality, and learning how to communicate effectively with maintainers.

Just For Fun
If I could instantly become a world-class expert in a non-technical skill, it would be storytelling (through writing or visual media). I think storytelling is such a powerful way to make ideas impactful and memorable.

Glad to be involved in this project and love the fact that it has given me an opportunity to get to know and collaborate with such talented people from across the globe.
