Opinions on brotli compression? Do you use it? Should it be implemented into Fedora Images?

Brotli is a compression tool made by Google, mainly for fast web compression.

But it may also be useful for Desktop use, do you use it?

An issue requesting its implementation into Kinoite is here

What do you think? I will test it and compare against .7z and some others.

update:

  • the file utility cannot read brotli archives as they dont have a “magic signature” indicating the file type
  • because of that libarchive does not support brotli
  • because of that, ark and the GNOME equivalent dont have support

The Google issue is from 2019 so yeah they dont care. zstd is way more primising
