Hi everyone. I’m having trouble installing Nvidia drivers on my Fedora KDE Plasma Edition laptop. Nvidia-SMI is frozen.
Please describe in detail the steps you are using, how you are attempting to install the drivers, etc.
Are you trying to install them from the rpmfusion repo or from some other location / method?
I installed the Nvidia drivers from rpm fusion following this guide (secure boot enabled and disk encrypted)
Nvidia-smi is not even available until you have installed the package
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-cuda. Are you saying that you already installed that package, that the nvidia drivers are loaded and functioning, AND that nvidia-smi produces no results?
yesss
What is the result of lsmod | grep nvidia and dnf list --installed \*nvidia\*?
Also show the result of nvidia-smi. It should look similar to this
$ nvidia-smi

Please post terminal output as pre-formatted, web-searchable text (use the <\> button hidden behind the “plus” sign). Linux support is a community effort, which means careful presentation is more likely to be found by others with relevant expertise.
This seems to mean there may be an issue either with the nvidia kernel module or with the cuda package.
Would you please run these 2 commands
sudo akmods --rebuild --force to rebuild the kernel modules
sudo dnf reinstall xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-cuda to ensure it is properly installed and functional.
Also please run inxi -Fzxx as well. Please post the output of inxi as preformatted text as suggested by George above. It will be several pages in length so images are difficult to use.
Sorry. I’ll keep that in mind. I used the commands sudo akmods --rebuild --force stuck. Here’s the result:

When rebooting, I had to close the terminal. I terminated the command process. After rebooting, Nvidia-SMI still doesn’t show anything.

Does that ^C mean that inxi -Fzxx hung at that point and you had to quit it?
Normally after the CPU details it would list the graphics hardware.
not surprising if nvidia-smi freezes.
Yes, this command froze just like the command nvidia-sim and sudo akmods --rebuild --force
In a second terminal, run journalctl —follow to see if it provides details to explain the hang.
check the log files in /var/cache/akmods/nvidia/
also run and post output of the commands I asked for in the prev. post.
