NVIDIA GF117M Legacy Driver Issue on Fedora 41

The 470xx and older drivers do not and never will support wayland. If you are using hardware that is old enough to require those drivers then you cannot combine the nvidia drivers and wayland. Nvidia added in the first (early) wayland support when the 495 driver was released and it has improved over the last releases.

I am sorry, but this is a decision from nvidia and does not have anything to do with linux directly since those older drivers are 100% proprietary. There is no one who can assist in changing this situation.

No worries! I don’t think it would be a huge job to make it work, Wayland did actually “more or less” function with these drivers a year or two back (F39 or 40?) and I think it is more a function of the testing carried out on new Gnome releases. However I also see how it is now impractical to do the work. It’s actually pretty amazing that my 14 year old PC (with a slightly less old graphics card) still runs F41. It doesn’t even have the SSE4.2 instruction set (hence no Blender).
Come to think of it, it’s also surprising that Gnome still runs OK on X11. How long will that last?
