Nvidia 3090 Wont Boot with Nvida Driver

Hi,

I am running Fedora 44 Silverblue and sometime in the last week an update has prevented the system booting when the Nvidia driver is installed. I have attempted a fresh install as well as trying out Bluefin to see if preinstalled drivers fix the issue but they dont.

I install the drivers using the instructions in the documentation, i.e. enabling the RPM Fusion repositories and then installing the Nvidia drivers.

When the system gets to grub, I press enter and the dialogue will get as far as saying “booting x or y” and not show the spinning wheel (plymouth).

Anyone suggest how best to troubleshoot this since I can even boot to get logs or see the boot messages.

Issues has been solved.

Turns out I had a power outage at some point last week and by BIOS battery must be dead. The BIOS reverted to its default of secure boot enabled which prevented the Nvidia kernel modules from buildings since I have not setup signing

Signing is really easy and would allow the driver to load even when secure boot is enabled.
Read the doc /usr/share/doc/akmods/README.secureboot and you will see how simple it actually is. The same instructions are on rpmfusion

@computersavvy This partially does not apply to Silverblue unfortunately and signing the modules currently require a container build.

You should be able to turn off secure boot and then the modules would not need to be signed.
