No thumbnails on Thunar Fedora 41

I have migrated to Fedora 41 / sway from Debian testing my copying everything in my home directory to a new install.

I don’t get thumbnials in thunar. I have

Installed packages
Name            : tumbler
Epoch           : 0
Version         : 4.18.2
Release         : 3.fc41

installed, but there is no such process running according to ps. Do I need to start it with systemctl somehow? journalctl -b does not show any error messages related to tumbler. I tried deleting ~/.cache/thumbnails but it is not regenerated.

Are you having issues with both image and video thumbnails, or just with image thumbnails? According to the Arch Wiki, XFCE requires tumbler to generate image thumbnails and ffmpegthumbnailer to generate video thumbnails.

How did you install Sway? Are you using the ‘spin’ or installing from a ‘custom OS’?

I am on a ‘custom OS’ and install Sway and Thunar and it works for me. I think Thunar brought in Tumbler, as I have that installed.

Just image.

The issue was fixed in the meantime, but I am not quite sure how; the machine was rebooted and I removed and reinstalled tumbler.

Thanksfully this issue is solved, even though I am not sure how that happened, but tumbler is extremely underdocumented. I am not quite sure where it logs to, or how to debug it; the rc file just shows the settings for the thumbnail generators and nothing else.
