I have my laptop with Feora 42 connected to my TV and external speaker system over HDMI, via a USB-C adapter in my laptop. The sound outputs to my TV/speakers fine on Windows however, when I switch to Fedora, upon boot-up, there is no sound output. The HDMI device does show in the sound settings, but there is no audio. If I switch to the internal speaker, the audio plays fine.
The only way I can resolve this is by removing and reconnecting the USB-C adapter every time I boot into Fedora. Once I do this, the sound plays fine over HDMI. It’s a nuisance for me because my laptop is in a cabinet with the lid closed, connected to an external display and speakers.
Reading up on this subject, it seems it could be related to the power saving mode of the snd_hda_intel
driver but I am not completely sure.
If this a common problem that I have overlooked or does anyone know what the issue might be? Happy to provide whatever logs are needed. Thank you!
