I triggered an update yesterday and shut it down. Today I booted it back, saw GRUB for a few secs (like the usual) and then nothing. I thought that maybe it got stuck. Pressed the shutdown button for 10 secs and restarted by pressing it again. This time I don’t see GRUB or anything else whatsoever. However I know that the computer boots, starts GDM since I’m able to increase/decrease volume levels. I attached my external display and I was able to login but I cannot use my integrated display as of now.
My laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 11. I did hard reset a couple of times but nothing has changed.
I saw other posts about KDE but those posts usually mention NVIDIA GPU’s which I don’t have. I just use the integrated Intel GPU.
I don’t even see Lenovo logo when I boot into my computer.
Now I update my computer again hoping that a kernel update would fix it back. But I suspect that my display is somehow dead since I don’t see the Lenovo logo.
Does the integrated display work in a Live USB? Updating should get a 7.0.14-200.fc44.x86_64 kernel and is worth having in case you are seeing an issue that has already been solved.
Thinkpads normally have a pretty through self test software stashed in a partition on the drive. It lets you run test on ram, speakers, display, trackpad and so on. Of course to get to it, you’ll need to interrupt the boot sequence with a keystroke - Enter and then F10 on mine.
Does that work for you?
If you get nothing on the panel when trying this, and the systemctl reboot --firmware-setup also does not kick the panel into life, it may either be dead or disconnected.
Panels are pretty robust these days so it may be worth-while checking for a crack ribbon cable, the absence of a backlight or any other obvious tells that you need to order a new panel.
During boot I don’t see anything including the Lenovo logo. But if I hit F1 right after switching the laptop on, I see the beep and I think it goes into BIOS.
Unfortunetely updating the laptop didn’t fix the issue. Hard reset didn’t either. How can I be sure whether the display is dead?
This is a pretty new laptop to be honest. Bought it almost a year ago and has booted maybe 20-30 times since then. Very sad to see this issue.
