Problem Description
After upgrading to Kernel 7.2.x, the Havit Fuxi-H3 wireless headset (using the 2.4GHz USB dongle) stopped emitting sound output on Fedora.
-
Hardware: Havit Fuxi-H3 Wireless
-
USB Dongle ID:
040b:0897(Weltrend Semiconductor / XiiSound Technology Corporation) -
Status: Microphone (capture) works fine, but playback is completely silent.
Root Cause
Inspecting dmesg and amixer reveals that Kernel 7.2 introduced a regression in how snd-usb-audio parses the USB Feature Units for this chipset.
Instead of a single channel control, ALSA creates two separate PCM playback controls:
-
numid=9(index=0): Initialized at 100% -
numid=10(index=1): Initialized at 0% (muted at the hardware level)
Because the dongle’s DAC requires both virtual registers to be open, numid=10 sitting at 0 completely blocks audio output to the headset speakers.
Immediate Fix (CLI)
You can unblock the hardware playback channel immediately without restarting PipeWire or rebooting:
Bash
amixer -c FuxiH3 cset numid=10 100
Permanent Solution (Udev Rule)
To make this fix persistent across reboots and USB dongle reconnects, you can set up a custom udev rule.
- Create a udev rule file
/etc/udev/rules.d/99-havit-fuxi-fix.rules:
Plaintext
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="sound", ATTRS{idVendor}=="040b", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0897", RUN+="/usr/bin/amixer -c FuxiH3 cset numid=10 100"
- Reload the udev rules:
Bash
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules && sudo udevadm trigger
Automated Script & GitHub Repository
I created a small repository with automated install.sh and uninstall.sh scripts, along with technical documentation regarding this kernel regression:
GitHub Repository: rnra57/Fuxi-h3-sem-udio-no-Kernel-7.2
Hope this helps anyone experiencing silent audio output with this dongle on Fedora!
