No audio on latest release

Hey. So I am having a problem with specifically Fedora Workstation as I know my audio works on Windows 11. Currently when I look at the sound settings I only see Dummy output which doesn’t give sound at all.

I’m on a HP Omnibook X Flip 14. It uses a Ryzen AI 9 - 465 chip, BIOS: F.05, Fedora 44, Kernel 6.19.14-300

I tried using AI to fix it but it only took me in circles and nothing really fixed the problem.

pls restart the system and rerun alsa-info.sh with sudo and post the lines after ALSA/HDA dmesg

You can also start alsamixer, select your card with F6 and check that lineout/.speakers aren’t muted or their volume is not set to 0 .

I can unmute everything inside HD-Audio Generic but it does not change anything and it resets on restart. As for PipeWire that thing resets if I exit or switch card and my third option still has no controlls.

Did you upgrade the system from f43 or f42, or is this a new clean install?
If upgraded, will sound be restored if you boot the previous kernel (from f42/f43)?

alsa-info.sh shows these, deactivate these settings and retry with the f44 kernel.

No I did not upgrade from f43 or 42 this was a fresh install.

reinstall, that’s up to you, but take a look first in /etc/modprobe.d/. You might have added files in this directory with those settings.
You can either remove or rename the files e.g. filename.conf to filename.conf_OFF

The CPU and system are quite new, I guess it’s not fully supported yet. Still you could try installing kernel 7.0.3 or even one of the RC for kernel 7.1 from rawhide.

yeah I suspect the same thing about it just being my CPU that is not supported yet but there has still been a few months since it released. I tried running the alsa-info.sh from the live environment and it gave kinda similar results I dunno if this means anything really. It might be because I am using the exact same USB or maybe a later update made changes.

What would happend if I installed one of the later kernels? won’t I be at an experimental version of Linux then? Maybe other things break or the system starts becoming unstable?

It’s probably the system’s BIOS not providing the required info for the kernel to configure the audio device or a required firmware is not yet available.

you can safely use the 7.0.3 kernel. I guess next week 7.0.4 should be available in updates-testing repo. Installing a RC for 7.1 is just to test audio and provide additional info in a bugreport. I’d remove 7.1 after the test.

But you need to revert your changes first.
