Newly installed Silverblue package not showing/found

Folks running Fedora Silverblue40. Using sudo rpm-ostree search chirp found the package so I continued to install using sudo rpm-ostree install chirp.
However, after a reboot nothing is showing in my apps. Even trying to run chirp from the command line displays a command not found …

Running sudo rpm-ostree status does indeed show chirp installed as a layered package

How do I start to work out whats happened and how to run it please ???

I use chirp but it has never been provided by the developer as an rpm that I am aware of.
What repo did it install from?

Chirp is a python package and must be installed using the instructions at the source Home - CHIRP

On Silverblue it would need to be user installed using pip.
There are several required supporting packages, including yattag & wx-python among others.

The package in updates is way out of date as it comes from chirp.danplanet.com which was retired several months ago when the developer switched sites. There are routine updates to the app at least monthly and the developer has stated that he does not create packages for direct installation through distro package managers.

There is a mailing list at the developers site where assistance may be obtained if the instructions are not adequate.

Added f40, silverblue

Jeff I’m falling at the first hurdle here. Although a long time linux user i have only recently moved to Silverblue so im really unable to say when you ask what repo it was actually installed from. Im not sure how to tell.

Secondly, i have not even heard of pip so i need to read up on that too… As I mentioned after rpm-ostree search chirp I simply rpm-ostree install chirp.

I will come back to you again hopefully soon with better answers than that mate

Read the instructions on the site I linked. It should help.

The package you installed seems may not pull in all the dependencies needed.

From a terminal you can run chirp and see what messages you may receive. Then post them here and maybe it can be worked through.

Installing on a regular fedora spin is much different than using one of the atomic variants.

formal note, not relevant to the specific issue:

rpm-ostree is used without sudo, it’s permissions are managed by polkit

the search also doesnt need any privileged access, so even on dnf (where sudo is needed) this does not require sudo
