I have issues with logging in. I start my computer and i log in, then i can use it for about 30-60 seconds and then it throws me back onto the login screen. If I try to login it just shows a black screen, and my monitors stop detecting display output. I’m still new to Linux in general so please explain so I can actually learn from this. I couldn’t find any similar issues online, so I hope that I’m asking in the right place.
What is your hardware? Can you post the output of inxi -Gzxx
as pre-formatted text using the </>
button.
Do you see errors from kwin in the user journal when you are kicked out of the session?
For hardware:
i9-9900kf
ASUS Hero Maximus XI
32Gb-2666mhz
RTX 2070
Here the output of inxi -Gzxx

What should I look for in the logs?
Apologies I meant to ask for inxi -Fzxx
. Can you provide that?
Have you installed the nvidia drivers from RPM fusion?
Look in the logs for errors from kwin
journalctl --user -u plasma-kwin_wayland -b 0
And look for error in the system journal
sudo journalctl -b 0 -e
The -b 0
only looks at logs since you booted up the system.
Here inxi -Fzxx:

I can see from the logs that there are graphics errors reported.
I can also see that you have a lot of extra software that is reporting errors.
Does the error correspond with running a particular app?
No, it also happens if I do nothing.
The only thing that runs at startup would be my vpn, but I dont see how that could cause any issues?
Agreed I’d be surprised if the VPN can break GPU.
You could try booting from the KDE live install USB and see if that is stable?
That works perfectly, is it maybe the drivers since I don’t have the NVIDIA drivers on the live install? I have the nonfree drivers from discover.
For the 2070 I’m reasonable sure that without the rpmfusion nvidia drivers you will run into other issues.
You could try uninstalling the nvidia drivers so that you fall back to using the nouveau driver and see how well you run.
sudo dnf remove '*nvidia*' --exclude=nvidia-gpu-firmware
Then reboot and run inxi -G
to check that you are using the nouveau driver.
It works now? But it says I don’t have a driver and only one of my screens is working on a really low resolution.

What happends when you try to load nouveau?
sudo modprobe nouveau
I tried loading nouveau, and it froze. I left it for a few minutes but nothing seemed to be happening, so I shut it down, and tried rebooting and now it is bootlooping or refusing to boot. I get to the boot selection screen in fedora, but after that every install, even the older ones bootloop. I think I did find why the nouveau drivers werent working though. They were blacklisted in the startup commands. Sorry for any gammar or spelling mistakes, i’m currently writing this from my phone.
