So I’ll be getting a new laptop i need a clarity on a specific part
So i have this laptop in which i have 2 ssd in one of which i have 512 gb ssd which I’ve partioned for 300 for windows and 200 for fedora ,so when I’ll get a new laptop it’ll already come with a ssd and a windows (with vmd controller on) so if i just turn of the vmd controller reinstall windows and then insert this ssd which has fedora will it work properly? like the bootloader will show the fedora. Or do I have to reinstall fedora or is there any issue that could be there
Edit - after getting the laptop should i just directly go to bios and disable vmd and install fresh windows or should i set it up first and disable bitlocker encryption or anything else?
You could put your Windoze/Fedora ssd in your new laptop and set in the BIOS to boot from that.
Then format your new SSD and use it as you wish.
You did not say which windows version is on the old laptop. There are major differences between win10 and win11, and the hew laptop is almost certain to have win11 since win10 is already out of support.
There should be no need to reinstall windows on the new laptop. Installing the second ssd then after booting fedora use gparted and remove the windows partitions from that ssd should allow extra room to use for fedora if you choose.
In order to use grub to boot windows after the drive relocation should be a simple sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg command away on the command line after deleting the windows partitions on that drive.
Yes, I would also suggest disabling of bitlocker as well.
It worked but my wifi drivers are missing and in the lock screen it’s trying to sign in but without wifi i can’t sign in (ethernet option is also not available)
What wifi card do you have? Some wifi cards are not supported on Linux - maybe you got unlucky and your new laptop has one of them?
Do you mean you can’t sign in to Fedora without an internet connection?
No my fedora is working perfectly fine but my windows is not
You probably need to ask for help on a Windows forum.
makes sense
Ah - that makes sense
I’ve never seen Fedora require an internet login. Feel free to stick with a single boot Fedora - we’re here for ya!
Sure man thanks
