My pc runs slow especially when installing software on Fedora 39 KDE spin

Hello,

As my title states my pc runs slow and some of my cpu cores are then pinned at 100%. On top of that sometimes when I shutdown my pc it starts back up again and the only way to turn it of is holding the power button.

I have been trying to find out what is going on. Memtest gave me zero errors, the gnome disks smart test doesn’t show any error so I am getting desperate. DMESG and JournalCTL keep giving me the same three error messages. On Pop OS when shutdown the pc it gave me the same messages.

I hope anyone can help me or point me in the right direction on how to solve this problem since it is the only pc I own. So thank you to anyone for any help or time they are willing to give me.

It is usual for the installation of an update to use 100% on some cores.
Depending on your hardware this may be significant.

Please install inxi and post the output of inxi -Fx so we have details of your hardware.

I just did this command:

journalctl -b -1 --priority=3

and I got this:

journalctl -b -1 --priority=3

Same (type of) errors as you have. I didn’t notice anything strange today in my laptop, but when I saw your errors I got curious and did the same and now I also see all these messages.
Are they serious, do we need to get worried or don’t they mean anything?

I use the KDE spin of Fedora 39.

The ACPI errors are becuase of bugs in the UEFI BIOS code that the linux kernel detect and will work around. Its rare that they indicate an issue to worry about.

Thank you for your response. I might not have explained it correctly in my title, my cpu pins certain cores 100% while being on the desktop and only having system monitor open. When it is particularly bad, the SSD/HDD activity light is solid white.

I asked for inxi -Fx.

I am so sorry I will fix it.

It is fixed

I do not see anything that would lead to particularly slow performance.
You do have a very old, but fast, CPU.

I would not expect updates to be slow.

Can you share timing data? What does slow mean for you?

I do not understand what you mean with timing data. For me slow is the system taking several seconds to open programs or sometimes outright freezing during an installation.

what processes/programs are using all the CPU? htop in the terminal will show you. iotop may show you what’s writing to your storage device so much as well.

Recently I’ve faced the same issue. According to this very similar problem discussion problem could be with my Z97 motherboard. I’ve upgraded my motherboards firmware, but that didn’t help, so I’ve decided to use this bypass for now:
add @reboot echo "mask" > /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe09 in cronie.
BTW I think you face performance issues due to journald just spamming this log messages so your ssd is always busy writing them or something.
