My Canon printer

Hey everyone !! I have a printer but I have no idea of how can I install the printer driver in linux can anyone help me… Printer details Name: Elyas Okour LBP2900 from canon

We don’t know what linux distro or release version you are using and that info is important. We also do not know how you are connecting it – USB or wifi or ethernet?

If I were to guess that you may be using fedora 43 Workstation edition then the config of most printers is done simply with the gnome control panel (settings) → printers and configure it there.

Beyond that very simple and generic suggestion we really need a lot more info to assist.

I couldn’t find anything that would indicate whether or not the LPB2900 print is supported on any linux systems. Canon used to rely on a proprietary and undocumented protocol which may make it difficult to support Canon printers on linux. Canon does provide some drivers for linux, which might work.

There is a Gutenprint driver for use with CUPS on linux. The Fedora package is gutenprint-cups.x86_64 CUPS: drivers for Canon, Epson, HP and compatible printers. These drivers have limited functionality to send a raster to the printer. I used a Canon inkjet printer on Fedora a few years ago with a Gutenprint driver. It was fine for simple plain text documents. I stopped using it when the printer stopped feeding paper.

I have a Canon laser printer and I downloaded and installed the drivers from the Canon website. You can see if they have drivers there for your printer. Mine works great.
