Mplayer no longer able to play video, says "NV-GLX" missing

This was all working fine on my Fedora 37 box until a relatively recent update, not sure exactly what’s broken it. I am using the proprietary NVIDIA driver version 530.41.03 and kernel 6.2.11-200.fc37.x86_64. Any attempt to play an mkv file containing H.264 video results in

VO: [vdpau] 1280x720 => 1280x720 Planar YV12
Xlib: extension “NV-GLX” missing on display “:0”.
[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_presentation_queue_target_create_x11: A catch-all error, used when no other error code applies.
FATAL: Cannot initialize video driver.

As I say these videos all played fine a couple of weeks ago. These also play fine if I login using the xorg gnome desktop. Anyone else seeing this?
