Most recent f42 KDE update = black monitors for my Thinkcentre m910x :(

,

Hey everyone,

I’ve been an avid Fedorian for the last couple of years (KDE ) with no problems so far , (other than when I break things getting carried away learning.)

Earlier today however, I did a normal weekly upgrade and my desktop’s monitors went black…they’ll power on in the beginning then just be inactive while the desktop is super quiet and still on. When i finally turn them off the computer manually, the fedora logo pops up again and they go through a normal shut down…

Core i7-6700

HD 530

Does this have something to do with a new kernel or firmware update ?

Hoping it’s salvagable and thought this would be the right place to figure it out.

Thank you!

Do you have an nvidia gpu?
If so this may be the issue.
You probably can open a text terminal by pressing ctrl-alt-f3 when the black screen appears and using lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 vga find out what GPUs are installed. If there is an nvidia gpu installed and you have previously been using the nvidia drivers from rpmfusion then it may be necessary to recompile the drivers. sudo akmods --rebuild --force will rebuild and install the drivers.

This sometimes occurs when a reboot is performed too quickly after a kernel is updated.

If you do not have an nvidia gpu or if the driver was installed from some source other than rpmfusion then this fix probably does not apply.

so the ctrl-alt-f3 brought a cli right up, almost like a server interface. no nvidia GPU. but i’ll give it a shot

Thank you jeff, I was able to launch the ssdm from the CLI after I was able to bring it up with ctrl+alt+f3; super simple solve.
