Microphone seems not to work in active videocalls

Hello everyone,
as I make my way through the working day with Fedora 42 (KDE), I find myself facing another problem:

Nobody seems able to hear me when I am in a videocall via Zoom – whether it be in the desktop programme, or via Firefox Browser.

I have checked to see the audio settings in the Zoom programme, and tested my microphone on Zoom, and that seems to be working just fine. It is specifically when I am in a call that no sound is being picked up. I have also checked under System Settings > Sound whether there is a different microphone or some other shenanigans happening, but as far as I can tell, the names of the devices match between the System Settings and Zoom.

I do not know what specific info to give you to analyse the issue, so please feel free to tell me what to do so you can get an insight into whatever you might need.

Thank you kindly! :man_bowing:

Not a direct answer, but the most reliable way I have found of using Zoom on Fedora KDE is in a Chromium-based browser (I use Ungoogled Chromium). I use Firefox for most things, but it was very glitchy for Zoom.

Also, if you go to Join a Test Meeting | Zoom you can test your camera and microphone in (theoretically) the same environment you have in an actual meeting.

If the “microphone test” in the Zoom app hides problems that you experience in actual meetings, hopefully the test meeting will give you a more reliable idea whether your setup will work or not.

What type of headset do you have, and how is it connected? (Bluetooth or USB or 3.5mm)

In Firefox about:config
check the settings under
media.webrtc
I had a mic problem with Jitsi and something there in about:config fixed it.
I can’t find the exact config but I will check when the kids give my laptop back

Also check media.peerconnection.enabled and setting it to true

I assume you have granted permission for the mic in Firefox.
